Dubai, UAE - The Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus is now the first university in Dubai’s Academic City to become an official IELTS testing centre.
The British Council of Dubai and Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus signed an agreement on Wednesday, April 12th enabling the university to offer the most widely used English language proficiency test. The university will also offer open group pre-sessional English courses for students who are interested in polishing their English skills further in advance of the exam.
On the occasion, Professor Ammar Kaka, Provost and Vice-Principal, Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus, commented: “As a globally minded university, Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus entered into this partnership with the British Council with the goal of supporting not only our students to the best of our ability, but also the community as a whole. Our hope is that this decision serves to open many doors for students moving forward.”
Mr. Gavin Anderson, UAE Country Director for the British Council, praised Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus on the occasion and said, “The British Council is honoured to have signed this partnership with Heriot Watt University that will provide students from the university with the internationally recognised and accepted IELTS qualification. This partnership represents our continued commitment of supporting the leading Higher Education institutions in the UAE, by providing qualifications that recognise their ability to communicate in English, which is becoming a valuable 21st Century skill sought after by more and more international employers.”
He further added, "IELTS is the world's most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration, with 2.9 million tests taken in the last year alone."
IELTS is a standardized English language proficiency test for non-native English speakers. With over 1,000 testing centres around the world, IELTS is now accepted worldwide by more than 10,000 organizations in 135 countries around the world, including educational institutions, employers, governments, immigration authorities and professional bodies.
