Sharjah – The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has announced that all targets set for this year 2022 have been achieved as planned and according to the key performance indicators (KPI) as well as operational plans.

Several objectives, including encouraging Sharjah's sustainable economic development, satisfying the needs of the business community, solidifying the emirate's trade performance flexibility, and attracting direct investments, have been successfully realized.

According to the latest statistics, the total number of registered memberships in 2022 increased by 7% to 59,882. Meanwhile, the number of certificates of origin totaled 66,795 until the end of November this year, while the value of exports exceeded AED 25 billion.

These statistics were revealed during the SCCI’s 3rd meeting of the 16th session of the Board of Directors, held at the chamber’s premises under the chairmanship of HE Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, SCCI Chairman, HE Walid Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Second Deputy Chairman, SCCI; Board members, HE Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, and assistants to the Director-General.

A number of important topics have been discussed during the meeting, with the chamber also approving its 2023 budget. The chamber also explored ways to bring about its strategic objectives and diversify its financial resources in order to carry out its plans and projects as scheduled across all economic sectors.

The chamber also discussed mechanisms for improving the business environment and fostering the sustainable performance of the private sector in Sharjah, as well as how to better boost SCCI institutional performance through the implementation of training programs intended to provide quality services to SCCI members and the business community in general.

The meeting touched on the previous year's goals, which fulfilled all KPIs set to meet the SCCI’s targets, including promoting Sharjah’s position as a recognized regional investment hub. The Board also reviewed the progress made on a number of projects and initiatives being implemented to upgrade the chamber’s services.

HE Abdallah Sultan Al Owais emphasized that the SCCI is moving forward into the future in accordance with a clear roadmap designed to achieve the chamber's goals and strategies, advance Sharjah's economic development, and promote its leading position as a top business community destination worldwide.

Al Owais went on to say that the milestones reached in 2022 reflect the chamber's vital and sustainable economic role in improving the emirate's economic environment, developing business sectors, encouraging investments, revitalizing trade, expanding the network of connections with business communities, improving institutional performance, and investing in human resources.

For his part, HE Mohammed Amin Al Awadi reviewed the targets achieved under the chamber’s action plans for support services sector, communication and business sector, and other SCCI’s departments, offices, and divisions. He also shed light on the impact that action plans have had on business performance development and the implementation of the SCCI's strategic programs. 

From improving service quality and excellence, to upgrading the level of services provided to the business community and supporting institutional excellence, the SCCI made quality achievements in 2022, Al Awadi said.

During the meeting, a presentation was delivered on the progress seen by the chamber’s Sharjah Excellence Award 2022. The gathering also highlighted the SCCI’s efforts to promote the award and achieve its several goals, including fostering a culture of institutional excellence and quality management, and improving the level of performance of economic establishments.

The Board was also briefed on the performance of the chamber’s branches in the eastern and central regions and their efforts being made to serve members. They also reviewed the programmes, initiatives, events, and festivals organized by the chamber to strengthen cooperation with government economic entities and serve the emirate’s business community.
