Dubai: 4 November, 2009 - Global Village, a member of Tatweer and the region's most popular venue for culture, cuisine, entertainment and shopping, today announced its selection as the winner of the prestigious Arabia Corporate Social Responsibility Award in the small category for innovative waste management strategy deployed during the last season.
The Arabia CSR Awards Programme instituted by the Emirates Environment Group (EEG) honours companies that demonstrate a clear vision, strategy and implementation of CSR in the Arab region.
Saeed Ali Bin Redha, Project Director, Global Village, received the award on behalf of Global Village during a gala dinner and awards ceremony. The awards were supported by the United Nations Global Compact and recognized internationally as a key CSR initiative from the Arab world.
Bin Redha said: "The CSR Award from EEG is a direct outcome of the achievements by our remarkable team at Global Village. Each member of the team has significantly contributed to the success of the waste management strategy during the last season that also registered the highest visitor satisfaction score.
"For the upcoming season that will open on 22 November, plans are already underway to conserve energy and water while introducing recycling solutions. We are delighted to announce the Global Village will continue to maintain its standards as one the pioneering destinations for green initiatives."
Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of EEG, said: "Global Village's implementation of international waste management practices reflects its profound commitment to a definitive CSR agenda. In addition to Global Village's environmental stewardship, the organization is founded on strong principles of good governance, labour and health and safety. The recognition through the awards will position the family destination as a benchmark for other businesses in the region to emulate and adopt across their operations."
During the 13th season of Global Village that ran until 21 February 2009, the Global Village officials successfully identified 11 major locations as main collection points to ensure the implementation of appropriate segregation processes as part of its waste management exercise. The strategy helped raise the awareness levels of visitors and stakeholders on environmental risks and contributed to changing their attitudes towards being more green-friendly.
A total of 60 companies from diverse industries and various countries were shortlisted for evaluation by an elite panel of international experts. The companies were selected on the basis of their overall CSR best practices and not for one-offs or short-term projects.
Located within Dubailand, Global Village has evolved into the region's premier family venue where diverse cultures from around the world come together for entertainment, cuisine and commerce.
