Over 100 Association of Professional Interior Designers members to discuss new ideas and trends at DOMOTEX 2009

DOMOTEX Middle East, the only dedicated carpets and floor coverings exhibition in the Middle East & North Africa region, will highlight new concepts and trends that are contributing to an estimated 2.5 per cent annual world demand for flooring and carpets through 2012, during the exhibition's 2009 edition. The event's final schedule and venue have been set to May 17 to 19, 2009 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre (DICEC), UAE.

The Middle East's carpet and floor coverings sectors continue its steady performance due to the region's resilient hospitality industry. In the hotel segment alone, developments slated to open in 2009 and 2010 remain on schedule, with 54 hotels amounting to 15,360 rooms to be introduced this year. Developers and contractors are eyeing flooring materials that they are familiar with or which offer significant cost savings and performance benefits, in efforts to further streamline projects throughout the region.

"The region's commercial and residential property sectors, which are going through a period of slower growth, are expected to recover strongly in the latter half of this year, presenting numerous opportunities for carpet and floor covering businesses.  Adjustments to the event date and venue have also aligned DOMOTEX better with the regional business calendar and will thus allow it to more effectively reach its target audience," said Angela Schaschen, Managing Director of Deutsche Messe Branch Dubai.

Two special areas that will showcase materials, products, techniques and trends for the hospitality and office sectors are Creative Flooring and Designers Corner. Professionals from the UK will again be demonstrating the latest hotel and office floor laying skills at the Creative Flooring section, while the Designers Corner will display the latest designs in flooring to interior designers and architects.

Supported by The American University in Dubai and the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID), the Designers Corner will feature the top regional and international concepts in interior design. An added feature is the APID Flooring Seminar, wherein renowned speakers will enlighten both existing and potential members on the role of flooring in interior design. Over 100 professional interior designers are expected to attend the seminar, which will be conducted at the Designers Corner.

"APID is pleased to work together with DOMOTEX Middle East on the Flooring seminar. The atmosphere of the Designers Corner and the seminar program perfectly fit our commitment to providing our members with high-quality events and the latest updates on their field," said Kenneth Laidler, President, APID.

Organiser Deutsche Messe expects the exhibition space to quickly sell out due to the strong momentum provided by DOMOTEX Middle East 2008. Last year's edition posted a 4 per cent increase in exhibitors and a 2 per cent increase in visitor footfall.

DOMOTEX Middle East 2009 will showcase a complete line of handmade and machine-made carpets; textile and resilient floor coverings; parquet and wooden flooring; laminates; sports arena flooring; fibres, yarns and textiles; cleaning and application technologies; ceramic tiles; and natural stone and marble floorings. The exhibition and trade fair attracts key industry players such as wholesalers and retailers of floor coverings, decision makers in the contracting business, planners, architects, interior designers, construction companies, project planners, floor fitters and other skilled workers from the sector.

DOMOTEX Middle East's dynamism mirrors the growth of DOMOTEX Hannover and the booming DOMOTEXasia/CHINAFLOOR. DOMOTEX Hannover took place from January 17 to 20, 2009, while DOMOTEX Asia/CHINAFLOOR will be held in Shanghai from March 24 to 26, 2009.
