Event visited by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan and delegations from Saudi, Iraq and UNESCO, GETEX-Careers & Training witnesses heavy job seeker traffic
(Dubai, 7 April 2008) GETEX Dubai, the region's leading education, training, careers and didactic technology event drew to a close with visitors exceeding the 30,000 mark over the course of five days. The event, held from April 1st- 5th 2008 which was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and was also visited by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.
The 20th edition of GETEX Dubai gave national and expatriate students access to more than 2500 secondary and tertiary education options from over 500 education providers through its GETEX- Student Recruitment event.
Concurrently, GETEX- Careers & Training 2008, the newest discrete segment in GETEX's portfolio offered employment opportunities for senior students looking for access to the job market and experienced employees climbing the career ladder. The segment, title sponsored by oil producer ADNOC saw a large presence of job seekers. "ADNOC's rapid expansion has necessitated the hiring of 1200 employees annually and led it to target both national and expatriate employees for technical and engineering posts. Our presence at GETEX-Careers & Training 2008 helped us meet a lot of engineers, and we are confident of producing a high quality short list from the resumes gathered. All in all, our participation at the first GETEX -Careers & Training exceeded expectations," commented Mubarak Al Mehairbi, Manager, Group National Recruitment Department, ADNOC.
Action International, the technical service provision company also compiled over 500 resumes. "We came to GETEX Careers & Training believing that we could attract competence in the specialized areas of civil, electrical and geotechnical engineering. Our efforts were highly successful, and we have built a cost effective database of prospective employees through our participation while also using GETEX as a marketing and awareness building tool," commented Reem Ayed Al Zumut, Human Resources Manager, Action International.
At the same time, GETEX- Education Equipment & Technology offered a trade platform for suppliers and purchasing decision makers for education, and serves as a point of access for new education technologies, equipment and methodologies entering the Middle East. The segment was visited by delegations from the Ministry of Higher Education Saudi Arabia, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia for ICT projects in Iraq, the Kurdistan Regional Government, Abu Dhabi Industrial City and the UAE Ministry for Higher Education. The segment also hosted the GETEX- ISTE Global Forum for Technology & Innovation in Education, running from 1st-3rd April with a conference programme under the direction of the US-headquartered International Institute of Technology in Education.
