Dubai, December 9, 2004. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced the new FibreCAT N20i entry-level NAS (Network Attached Storage) system with iSCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface) support and an extremely attractive price/performance ratio.

Targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), the FibreCAT N20i provides 1 Terabyte of easy-to-install storage capacity using hot-swap SATA disks. It is loaded with features for high reliability, low operating costs and easy integration. The new system offers NAS and iSCSI in one box, without extra costs. Unlike the direct-attached storage, iSCSI SAN storage solutions enable businesses to share storage resources across servers and easily expand storage capacity.

"The launch of the FibreCAT N20i represents Fujitsu Siemens Computers enhanced commitment to the SME segment," said Ashraf El-Arabaty, Product Marketing Manager, Enterprise Products, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "The new solution combines the latest technological advances with cost-effectiveness, backed by our long experience in building rock-solid storage systems. This boosts our entry-level storage offerings and represents an outstanding value for the SME market. The iSCSI feature will enable businesses in the Middle East to tap the data management and flexibility benefits of networked storage without the high costs."

The new storage system integrates into virtually every existing IT environment. Based on Windows Storage Server 2003, the FibreCAT N20i fits seamlessly into active directory and Distributed File System (DFS) environments and is fully compatible with anti-virus software. In combination with the Windows Storage Server Feature Pack, the new system is also the ideal network storage device for Microsoft's Exchange messaging solution. Even its physical appearance is versatile: the smart case design gives users the freedom to use it as a floor stand unit or convert it into a 5U rack-mounted device.

With the iSCSI support, the FibreCAT N20i brings the Storage Area Network (SAN) concept to the Ethernet world. iSCSI is used to facilitate storage data transfers over existing IP Networks, combining the advantages of a SAN without the complexity of FibreChannel (FC) technology. This results in consolidation, scalability and management advantages at a lower price compared to FC SANs. In addition, distance limitations in storage environments and system downtime when adding capacity are eliminated. The simpler storage administration and management help to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) even further by saving training and operation expenses.
