Celebrity Designer Competition Rewards Young UAE Designers

18 May 2011, Dubai UAE: The four winners of the Celebrity Designer Competition, sponsored by BAFCO in conjunction with Mazari Interiors, had their winning workstation and reception desk designs displayed at The Office Exhibition, currently taking place in Dubai.

The Office Exhibition, the Middle East's premier trade event for office fit-outs and commercial interior design, is playing host to a number of industry competitions as it celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Organisers say the award programmes highlight the rise in prominence and recognition of regional talent.

The Celebrity Designer Competition provided an opportunity for young designers to showcase their skills and creativity in the industrial side of product design. Open to UAE university students and first year graduates, the competition involved each entrant visiting the BAFCO showroom for an educational workshop before submitting a final product design for a workstation or reception desk.

"A good workstation or reception desk is a combination of a designer's knowledge of materials - MDF, wood, metal components - and a designer's knowledge of the end-user, including the type of user, ergonomics and accessibility. This competition provided a fantastic platform for young designers to test their knowledge and gain first-hand, practical industry experience," said Sohail Cheema, Head of Design for BAFCO.

The winners of the competition, as judged by BAFCO and Mazari Interiors, were rewarded by having their creative designs displayed at The Office Exhibition. Following the show, one of the student finalists will also be given the opportunity to have their original design manufactured by the regional BAFCO factory. If the product is mass produced the winner will be entitled to a royalty fee of 10% for every piece produced and will also choose the name for their personal designer product range.

There has been a high standard of work submitted by the entrants demonstrating strong innovation and creativity. The Office Exhibition is located in Sheikh Saeed Halls 1-3 at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 17 May - 19 May 2011. The winning designs from the Celebrity Designer Competition, hosted by BAFCO in conjunction with Mazari Interiors, will be on display for the duration of the show.
