- 25% of visitors to airport logging on
- 65 free touch screen walk-up kiosks available
Abu Dhabi, UAE, 12 September 2009: Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) today announced the complete roll out of free Wi-Fi and internet access throughout Abu Dhabi International Airport. Fifty new walk-up kiosks are now fully operational in the newly opened Terminal 3, following the success of 15 walk-up kiosks which were launched in Terminal 1 last year.
The expansion of free internet access across the entire airport is part of ADAC's policy to create and technologically-advanced gateway to the world, and give rise to a leading airport with world-class facilities for all passengers.
The 65 touch screen walk-up kiosks offer 20 minutes of free internet access per session. The Wi-Fi provides 1 hour of access per session, with users able to reconnect for subsequent sessions. The service has already received a positive response from passengers, with 250,000 sessions registered in a recent twenty day period. Approximately 25% of visitors to the airport are logging onto the service, either through laptops, phones or the kiosks.
Sheikha Al Maskari, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at ADAC, said:
"We are delighted to be announcing the expansion of the free internet facilities at Abu Dhabi Airport. This is an important part of ADAC's commitment to the highest standards of airport facilities, and to providing a quality visitor experience for all our passengers, whether they be departing or in transit. From the current statistics showing the number of people utilising the service, we can tell this is a popular development in our customer service programme.
"In this day and age people enjoy constant communication wherever they are. The introduction of internet access at the airport has transformed many of our passengers' airport experience by providing an environment where they can stay in touch, tuned in and be kept up-to-date.
"This service is one that all our passengers can enjoy; it not only allows business travellers to maximise their productivity but also provides our other passengers with and entertainment and information outlet."
Users logging onto the internet service are hitting the social network sites such as Facebook, Friendster and Twitter. Other popular sites include news sites CNN, BBC and personal email sites such as Google and Yahoo mail.

About Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC)
Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) is a public joint-stock company wholly owned by the Abu Dhabi Government. It was incorporated by Amiri Decree number 5, issued on 4 March 2006, to spearhead the development of the Emirate's aviation infrastructure.
In September 2006, ADAC took over responsibility for the operation and management of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain international Airports. In 2008, ADAC added Al Bateen private jet airport, formerly Al Bateen military airbase, and Sir Bani Yas and Delma Island Airports to its portfolio. These airports all serve different segments of the marketplace and help contribute to Abu Dhabi's development as a destination for both business and leisure tourism.
Currently under way is the large scale AED 25 (USD6.8) billion re-development and expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport designed to increase the overall capacity of the airport to more than 20 million passengers per year. As part of this redevelopment, a second runway and a third terminal have been completed. A new ATC tower and Midfield Terminal Complex will complete the redevelopment within the next few years.
