Dubai, July 19, 2004 - Flower-themed workshops for children are springing up all over Dubai this week, with the Flower Artists one captivating the attention of the younger set. Organised as part of Flower Surprises week by the Dubai Municipality, the Flower Artists workshop combines simple and easily-learned technique with colourful mediums and accessories.

Taking place from 4 pm to 7 pm every day at the Al Bustan Centre, Deira City Centre, BurJuman Centre and Al Ghurair City, the Flower Artists workshops are aimed at children aged 8 - 12.

Derrar Bulhoul, member of the Flower Surprises Committee for Dubai Municipality, said the workshop is geared toward teaching children how to imitate an existing work of art as well as to create their own from their imagination.

"The supervisors will create a number of paintings related to flowers, and then enhance it with fresh or dried flowers or any other floral-themed accessories," Bulhoul explained. "That is then used as a sample for kids to replicate or get their own ideas from. They can even create a frame of fresh or dried flowers."

All the work is done on either glass or cardboard, depending on the children's familiarity with the medium. All the needed supplies - colours, paints, brushes, paper, glue and flowers - are all provided by the workshops. Valuable prizes and giveaways are on offer to the artists behind the best paintings, which will then be framed and displayed on the prize wall. Winners will also be interviewed by local television channels.

Dubai Summer Surprises 2004 is currently in Flower Surprises week organised by Dubai Municipality until July 21, followed by Heritage Surprises by Dubai Customs from July 22-28, Adventure Surprises by Dubai Police from July 29-Aug 4, Knowledge Surprises by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry from Aug 5-11, Back-2-School Surprises by the Department of Economic Development from Aug 12-18 and ends with the Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from Aug 19-27, 2004.
