15th October 2002: Alba has completed the first sale of its calcined petroleum coke with a 25,000 tonnes shipment setting sail from the company's marine terminal tomorrow.
Alba's coke calcining plant, commissioned at the beginning of the year by His Highness the Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, has a capacity to produce 450,000 tonnes per annum of calcined coke.
Chief Executive Bruce Hall said: "The calciner is designed not only to meet the needs of Alba now and after its Line 5 expansion but also to export calcined coke to companies around the world as a revenue earner. This is part of our strategy to continue to increase our contribution to the economy of the Kingdom of Bahrain."
The calcined coke has been loaded at the rate of 8,000 tonnes per day using Alba's new jetty and specialised loading facilities built as part of the US$400m project which was completed last year.
