Doha, Qatar- May 13, 2009: - After years of dreaming and planning, the first residents of The Pearl-Qatar moved into their lavish new homes at the start of this month, and other residents of The Pearl-Qatar were handed the keys to their new homes by delighted senior executives of United Development Company (UDC) the owner and developer of the QR 50 Billion Island.
In the happy and historic event, the first to take up residence at The Pearl -Qatar, British citizen, Chris Macklin, Head of HR and Administration at QInvest moved into One Porto Arabia on May first.
Macklin said: "It is pretty exciting. The Pearl-Qatar is really taking shape now and this is a great place to live especially with the various restaurants that are close to opening up which I'm really looking forward to. I've always liked living close to the sea, so The Pearl-Qatar is the perfect location for me."
The handover to excited new homeowners is taking place daily and will continue in the days and weeks ahead. The Pearl-Qatar's first families will soon be welcoming many new neighbors into UDC's Tower Four and townhouses. The other tower and townhouses developed by UDC will be handed over to their owners progressively throughout the year.
"It has been four years since we purchased our apartment with UDC and we are very happy now that we are moving in," said new resident of UDC's Tower Four, Dr Ayad Al-Shakarchi, a Consultant Surgeon who has lived in Qatar since 2004."We were all like children waiting for something and it happened. We are not just happy for ourselves, but for all the other residents that will come soon, and for all the people that are already enjoying a Mediterranean lifestyle in Qatar."
The Pearl-Qatar is now virtually a bubbling bee-hive of activity, as the retail shops are opening. In Porto Arabia alone, where the first residents are now happily beginning their new lifestyles, there are several new cafes opened, and more than 40 high-end shops, including Missoni, Gianfranco Ferre, Stefano Ricci, Hugo Boss, Lacoste and Moschino. Giorgio Armani and Hermes have opened outlets as well. Service providers are also available on the Island, including a banking, a chemist, and a dealer for Maserati and Ferrari.
All residential units at Porto Arabia are supplied with energy saving district cooling, and a state of the art waste management system to provide a comfortable and worry-free lifestyle.
Prior to the move-in, all safety checks and measures were conducted by The Pearl-Qatar's highly trained staff, and the Civil Defense, to ensure that each new arriving family could begin their exciting and relaxing new lifestyle without a second thought.
"There is a genuine thrill among all the proud staff of The Pearl-Qatar as they work hard to prepare to welcome the incoming new residents to their beautiful new homes," said Eric Lebrun, Executive Vice President, Assets Management, at The Pearl-Qatar.

By late summer, it is expected that 50 more retail outlets will open, including a lavish range of international restaurants. The Pearl-Qatar strikingly attractive marina at Porto Arabia is now also ready to receive yachts, the largest of which will be over 200 feet. In fact, there are already five private boats berthed there, their owners watching the real-life dream of The Pearl-Qatar rapidly rise up all around them.
Apartments in the towers and townhouses at Porto Arabia enjoy a range of facilities, which include a Fitness Centre with state of the art gymnasium equipment, plus a special aerobics room. For those who prefer, a lounge and a Jacuzzi are available around the pool, while the children enjoy the kid's pool nearby.
And after dark, the Entertainment Room will keep home owners and their families entertained all year round. What's more, a deluxe Banquet Room will provide special facilities for family's private functions, and the children's playroom will keep the little ones happy, too!
Meanwhile, in the coming months, a score of special events are planned to showcase the wonderfully idyllic Mediterranean-style waterfront living that awaits new or potential Pearl-Qatar residents.
"Now there is absolutely no need to spend hours on a crowded airplane for that much needed holiday, when you can enjoy resort style living every day of the year, right here at The Pearl-Qatar," said Lebrun.
