Dubai, UAE: The Filipino Press Club-UAE and Filipino Rhythm program of Dubai Eye 103.8 FM commenced its monthly forum last September 28. The officers of the club led by Mariecar Jara-Puyod discussed controversial issues affecting the Filipino community in the UAE such as the "visa run" wherein thousands of Filipinos have been stranded in the islands of Iran and at the borders of Oman.
The other officers also shared some encouraging news like the free seminars being given by individuals and organizations that are helping Filipinos enhance their skills. The monthly forum will be held every last Sunday of the month from 11 pm to midnight.
The Filipino Press Club-UAE is an organization of mainstream and trade Filipino print-broadcast-online journalists in the United Arab Emirates. Conceptualized as early as 2004 when seasoned as well as greenhorn newspapermen and photojournalists from Metro Manila have made their way into Dubai and the other emirates, the group aims to foster camaraderie as well as unity among all members, including those from the public relations profession.
The incumbent officers are Jara-Puyod, president, The Gulf Today reporter; Rachel Salinel, external vice-president, The Filipino Channel of ABS-CBN Dubai correspondent; Valeriano Handumon, internal vice-president, ITP Publishing Group senior photographer; Ryan Hernandez, treasurer, Gulf News senior photographer; Dindo Amparo, boardmember, ABS-CBN Middle East news bureau chief; and Milo Torres, boardmember, ofwzone.com web administrator.
They are mostly veteran media practitioners who have covered major man-made and natural events not only in the Philippines but also in Asia. They are also multi-awarded professionals.
