FedEx transports Pro-Karts to Dubai and enters two teams in the FedEx 24-Hour Pro-Kart Endurance Race

Federal Express Corp. (“FedEx Express”), the world’s largest express transportation company, will transport 50 Pro-Kart vehicles, weighing a total of approximately 7.5 tonnes, to the FedEx 24-Hour Pro-Kart Endurance Race which kicks off at 4pm on Thursday, October 31.

The FedEx 24-Hour Pro-Kart Endurance Race is the largest and most thrilling kart race held in the Middle East and will see over 40 top-ranking international and local teams competing at the state-of-the-art, purpose-built 1.2 km race track in Dubai, UAE. The exciting two-day event will kick-start near the American University of Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road, with the winners crossing the finishing line 24 hours later.

“FedEx has a long and close association with motor racing and sponsors these unique karting events in Dubai as well as the BMW Williams F1 team. Motor sport is a perfect fit with FedEx’s core values of speed, reliability, technology and team work,” said Hamdi Osman, Vice President, FedEx Middle East, Indian Sub-Continent and Sub-Sahara Africa.

The FedEx 1 team, captained by Christophe Hissette, the five-time UAE Two-Stroke Karting Champion and the winner of last year’s Middle East Pro-Kart Series, will start the race for FedEx. Hissette is joined by a team of skilled drivers from as far afield as Scotland, England and France as well as the UAE. The second FedEx team, FedEx 2, will be led by Peter de Benedictis, a regular driver for the team who is also a FedEx Operations Manager in Dubai.

"We have been absolutely delighted with the public’s enthusiasm for this race," said chief organiser Paul Berger from Formula One Dubai. "Interest in karting in the region is growing all the time. Last season’s races in Dubai were a great success, and the new season promises to be bigger, better and more challenging. It all bodes well for the future of an officially-approved FIA Karting Championship in the Middle East.”

This season’s second FedEx 24-Hour Pro-Kart Endurance Race will take place in January during the Dubai Shopping Festival 2003. Drivers from all around the world are expected to participate.
