Fastlink will today launch the first live demonstration of 3G telecommunications technology in Jordan using Motorola infrastructure mounted on a "3G trailer" - a semi-truck.

The demos are scheduled to take place at Fastlink's headquarters on October 21 - 30. The revolutionary technology will be presented to Jordanian ICT professionals, media, students of schools and universities, and Fastlink subscribers.

Within its proximity, the 3G trailer offers true third generation capabilities including: video calls, where users can communicate and see each other; multi-RAB calls - a key differentiator between 3G and current 2G networks - allowing the simultaneous use of voice and data access; video streaming, with video clips played live on mobile phones; as well as video downloads and multimedia messaging.

Adrian Nemcek, president and CEO, Motorola GTSS and executive corporate vice president, Motorola Inc., said: "Motorola is proud to be a close partner to Fastlink and to be part of their continued success. Fastlink is one of the leading operators in the region in the adoption of the latest technological solutions to serve their customers in the earliest and best way possible."

Mr. Mohammed Saqer, CEO of Fastlink, said: "We are pleased to further consolidate Fastlink's technological leadership through conducting the first live demo of 3G telecommunications in Jordan. We have even ventured beyond the launch of demos; in Bahrain, a Fastlink team is currently participating in building the first 3G network of its kind in the Middle East, and we have committed to fully commission such network in Jordan once the necessary licenses are issued."

He added: "Technological leadership lies at the core of Fastlink's strategy. It means putting at the disposal of the Jordanian citizen and the national economy the latest technologies as they become available in the world-- in effect realizing His Majesty King Abdullah's vision of transforming Jordan into a regional technological hub."

Jeff Cherif, general manager, Motorola GTSS, Middle East and Africa and vice president, Motorola Inc., said: "Motorola is especially pleased to be part of Fastlink's 3G demonstrations in Jordan. The 3G demonstration, using Motorola's world-leading infrastructure solution is another example of the latest technologies Motorola is able to deliver with its rich heritage and expertise in the wireless infrastructure business." He added: "We look forward to continuing to work closely with Fastlink moving forward."

Third generation mobile communications is a futuristic revolutionary technology that avails multimedia telecommunications at very high speeds, reaching up to 2 Mb/second. Only few operators worldwide in the most sophisticated telecom markets have implemented this technology.
