Abu Dhabi, UAE – 15 March 2004: Etisalat is offering its Multi Media Messaging Service (MMS) subscribers a unique opportunity to take part in the UAE’s first picture competition for mobile users in an exciting promotion with handset manufacturer, Samsung. The competition is being held during the final ten days of the month-long joint promotional campaign that started on 25 February.
The competition will run from March 16th till 25th with 30 Samsung SGH-X600 mobile handsets to be given away as prizes. Every day a theme will be announced on the three Arabian Radio Network (ARN) stations – 98.9 Al Arabia FM (Arabic), 96.7 Free FM (English) and 101.6 City FM (Hindi/Urdu).
MMS subscribers then need to use their imagination and send photos through MMS that represents the theme to each station where the best pictures will be selected.
Standard MMS rates will apply and people can enter as many times as they like with one handset up for grabs each day on each station. The 3 best photos selected by the radio station will each receive a Samsung SGH-X600 mobile phone. Winning pictures will be displayed on Etisalat and ARN websites.
“The UAE market has always demanded the latest in value-added services and technology,” commented Mohammed Al Fahim, Executive Vice President Marketing, Etisalat. “Many MMS-enabled phones have a camera feature and these are proving to be extremely popular, so we thought it would be very exciting to run our first ever mobile phone picture competition.”
“MMS is proving to be an increasingly popular function, particularly in this region,” said Mr. B. W. Lee, President and CEO, Samsung Electronics Middle East and Africa. “following the success of our different MMS and digital camera enabled handsets, this campaign is another step at catalysing the growth and development of the mobile market in the UAE.”
MMS is the multimedia evolution of SMS messaging. It allows customers with MMS-enabled mobile handsets to capture special moments by sending, receiving and forwarding colour pictures, animated images, audio and video content over the mobile network to another mobile or to an email address.
Etisalat’s MMS service ranks amongst the most competitive in the world in terms of pricing and message size. After a one time registration charge of Dhs. 30, subscribers are charged 45 Fils per MMS message with a capacity of up to 50Kb.
