UAE - Etihad Energy Service Company (Etihad ESCO), a wholly-owned subsidiary of DEWA, has partnered with Siemens to aid the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) with reducing the energy consumption of 115 mosques and 2 buildings through the execution of a retrofit project.

Siemens will be supporting Etihad ESCO and IACAD to provide Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC); and water and lighting retrofit solutions; along with the installation of control systems to further reduce the energy consumption of HVAC and lighting, within the framework of the first phase of the program. The project scope will also include Measurement & Verification for a six years contract period.

Upon completion, Siemens will guarantee a 20.43 percent reduction in annual energy consumption, resulting in yearly savings of over AED 3,000,000. The energy and equipment performance post the implementation of the current project are guaranteed for six years, with a payback period of 3.7 years.

Ali Al Jassim, CEO, Etihad ESCO, said: “Mosques are capable of setting perfect examples of energy efficiency practices, thereby encouraging visitors to adopt the same. Installation of HVAC, water and lighting retrofit solutions, along with additional control systems will significantly lower energy consumption and generate huge savings across 115 mosques under IACAD’s management. We applaud the department’s commitment to supporting the Dubai   Strategy and contribute to reduce 30% electricity and water demand in Dubai by 2030.”

“Smart infrastructure is the future of sustainable cities, and this project which reduces energy and water consumption at 115 mosques is a perfect example of how technology can significantly optimize performance,” said Markus Strohmeier, Senior Executive Vice President, Building Technologies Division, Siemens Middle East. “Dubai and the UAE are working towards ambitious targets for resource efficiencies, and I am pleased that Siemens is playing a key role in supporting this vital endeavor.”

Etihad ESCO, with its mission to make Dubai’s built environment a leading example of energy efficiency, is currently working on retrofitting over 30,000 buildings in the Emirate to ensure energy efficiency and manage rising energy demand. Etihad ESCO aims to create viable performance contracting market for energy service companies by auditing and proposing energy conservation measures to major building contractors/developers, bringing Dubai closer to the achievement of its sustainability goals.
