Dubai, UAE; August 12, 2014: The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives rolled out by Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) during the Holy Month of Ramadan have positively influenced thousands of people, with the ongoing 'Human Fuel' campaign continuing to raise funds to address global poverty.
The highlight of the CSR activities of ENOC during Ramadan was its contribution of AED 3 million to the UAE Water Aid initiative (UAE Suqia), launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to provide access for 5 million people around the world to fresh drinking water.
ENOC also supported the Iftar meal distribution by HH Princess Haya bint Al Hussain Centre for three days at four service stations by providing more than 1,200 Iftar meals. Additionally, 121,000 Iftar packs comprising dates, water and prayer beads were distributed for free to motorists at all ENOC/EPPCO service stations 30 minutes before Iftar, in association with Alokozay.
As part of ENOC's TrabouT volunteering initiative, 20 employees of the company volunteered for two days to support Al Ihsan Charity Association's 'A Safe Ramadan' campaign under the theme, 'A Ramadan without accidents.' ENOC volunteers distributed Iftar packs to drivers at traffic signals, encouraging them to drive safely and not resort to speeding. The initiative was sponsored by ENOC Industrial Products Marketing and ENOC CSR, and over 200,000 Iftar meals were distributed to motorists during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
ENOC and its subsidiary companies raised AED 8,000 as part of a Zakat Fund to support the Rashid Centre for Disabled. Branded envelopes were distributed to the employees, who could also make their contributions at a donation box placed at the ENOC Complex in Dubai.
Saif Al Falasi, Director of EHSQ and Corporate Affairs of ENOC, said: "We are thankful to all our partners and the community members for their support to our Ramadan campaigns. We are truly honoured to have made a difference to various sections of the society through these initiatives highlighting the values of compassion and generosity, which are the hallmarks of the Holy Month."
He added: "The various activities rolled out during the Holy Month reiterate our commitment to CSR activities and to fulfil the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to establish Dubai as the humanitarian capital of the world and as a city that cares for its residents and visitors."
The 'Human Fuel' campaign being organised by ENOC encouraging customers to donate funds to support the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and Dubai Charity Association to address global hunger, also recorded strong response from the community. A television commercial was launched to create awareness on the campaign during the Holy Month.
The campaign is currently ongoing with donation boxes placed at all service stations enabling motorists to make their contributions. Even a contribution of one dirham can make a big difference to the lives of the hungry as the amount can feed a child for an entire day. Those who are interested can also visit a dedicated and secure website at https://wfp.org/enoc to make their donations.
ENOC hosted the Ramadan Lecture series in English and Arabic, by renowned scholars who covered the beliefs, customs and practices related to the Holy Month. The lectures were attended by a number of employees of the organisation.
In other ongoing initiatives, Emirates Gas (EMGAS), a subsidiary of ENOC, joined hands with Dar Al Ber Society to distribute free LPG refill vouchers to 300 underprivileged families in Dubai, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. The vouchers entitle the needy families to a free refill of a 22 kg LPG cylinder. It was supported by the 'Safe Cylinder... Safe Family' campaign to promote the secure handling and use of gas cylinders.
ENOC undertakes a wide range of CSR activities throughout the year. The company has the CSR Label Award presented by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry for excellence in undertaking initiatives that make a difference to the community and the world.
