Dubai, UAE: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, organised summer internship programme for Emirati university students from different disciplines. The internship started in July and lasts for 8 weeks. It aims to develop the students’ practical capabilities, prepare them for the job market, and review Empower’s district cooling systems in the UAE.

The summer training programme accepts students from the Higher Colleges of Technology for Girls, the American University, University of Sharjah and other universities, from various disciplines including mechanical, electrical and civil engineering, business administration, human resources, applied science in information systems, among others.

The trainees will have the opportunity to visit Empower’s 73 district cooling plants and systems to acquire knowledge and practical experience. The programme has a specialised training that includes theoretical and practical aspects in finance, operations & maintenance, and other departments at Empower.

Ahmed Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, highlighted Empower’s commitment to participate in achieving the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership to invest in Emirati youth and enhance their skills and talents for a better tomorrow.

“The summer internship supports Empower's annual strategy. In the past years, we provided training programmes for university students in various practical fields. This allowed trainees to acquire the necessary expertise and to link scientific and academic knowledge with professional life,” said Bin Shafar.

Bin Shafar noted that the students will be offered an opportunity to learn about the nature of Empower’s work in all its departments, and get acquainted with the work of the district cooling plants, under the supervision of the heads of departments, technicians and specialists.

Empower is committed to educating and training its employees to suite them best for the job function. Empower previously organised a course on Basic Fire Safety, a course on Legal Aspects of Administrates Investigations and Sanctions, a Sustainable Cooling Technique workshop, a course on Effective Negotiation – Advanced, a Stress Management workshop, the 7th annual Innovation and the Future conference, in addition to a training for internal auditors, a training on the maintenance of devices and other workshops and programmes.

Empower currently operates over 1.34 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Business Bay, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens, Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai Design District and International Media Production Zone, among others.
