Shooting champion receives framed Olympic stamps and crystal trophy from Emirates Post

Dubai, September 19, 2004: Emirates Post recently honoured Sheikh Ahmed bin Hasher Al Maktoum, UAE's champion shooter, who made the country proud by winning gold in men's Double Trap shooting in the Athens Olympics.

Mr. Mohammed bin Towaih, Marketing Director, Emirates Post, presented Sheikh Ahmed with framed stamps of Olympics 2004 issued by Emirates Post and a crystal trophy carrying an artistic representation of the shooter in action and triumphant after his Olympic success.

The decorative frame featured four Olympic stamps portraying the shooting event, athletics, swimming and the Olympic torch with the Athens Olympics logo, as well as the First Day Cover.

Emirates Post had issued a set of commemorative stamps in four denominations (50, 125, 275, 375 Fils) on August 13, 2004, to mark the 28th Olympics games in Athens, as part of its support to the Olympic movement which started in the UAE in 1979 with the establishment of the National Olympic Committee. The committee became a member in the International Olympic Committee in 1980.

The UAE participated in the Olympic Games of Los Angeles in 1984 for the first time and then in Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 in Shooting. The UAE participated in the 28th Olympic Games - Athens 2004 in Shooting (Trap & Double Trap), Athletics and Swimming.
