Dubai, October 24 2007 - The Dubai Football Challenge today announced that Emirates Airline will be the official tournament sponsor. The Dubai Football Challenge 2008, the annual global football tournament held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, in conjunction with the Government of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and IEP Sports and Leisure (the World Series) is proud to announce Emirates Airline as the official tournament sponsor.
The event, to be held at the Al Maktoum Stadium, Al Nasr Club between 10th and 12th January 2008, forms part of IEP's legendary World Series. This year the tournament will host German stars Hamburg SV (current holders of the Dubai Football Challenge trophy) and China's National team alongside the UAE. The fourth team heading up the all star line up will be leading South American team Vasco da Gama from Brazil.

The Government of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, one of the hosts of the Dubai Football Challenge will continue to play a key role in ensuring that the logistics and on-the ground organisation in Dubai including the teams' training camps run smoothly. Hamad Mohammed bin Mejren, Director Inward Missions states, "Dubai is no stranger to hosting large events and the Dubai Football Challenge 2008 will once again reinforce Dubai's role in the development of international sports events in the world today. Following the success of last year's event we are delighted to be on board as one of the key partners for the event in 2008."

It is a good training ground for us - just a few weeks later the second period of the season starts in Germany. We are set to play against strong teams and our aim is to play good, entertaining games in Dubai. On top of this, Hamburg SV won the Dubai Football Challenge that took place last year in Dubai. It would be great for the team's confidence to win this year's tournament again."
Further details of the Tournament, including the match draw and ticket information are due to be announced at the end of November.
The Dubai Football Challenge is set to become a regular annual fixture in the Dubai sporting calendar and will ultimately be hosted at Dubai Sports City's 60,000 seat stadium.
