EHS, Environment, Health and Safety the regulatory arm of Dubai World is putting the final touches to the first EHS Health and Safety Awards with the final selection of 23 winners in four separate categories.
Finalising the award winners was one of the toughest jobs faced by the judges owing to the high standards of the submissions.
Mr. Ahmed Abdul Hussain, CEO of EHS said:
"We are amazed at the level of interest generated by the awards, for example, there were more than 50 submissions in the Construction Health and Safety category alone. There has been a lot of discussion and interest in the awards since they were announced back in June both from within Dubaiworld business units and from companies operating within Dubaiworld developments and sites"
"With Dubai now emerging as a hub for global commerce, international companies are coming here in increasing numbers, bringing with them a wide range of solutions to tackling environment, health and safety issues. This has enabled us to promote good health and safety initiatives and disseminate good practice throughout Dubaiworld businesses. We see one of the roles of EHS as facilitating the sharing of knowledge amongst organisations working under our jurisdiction. This Award will act as an incentive to foster a value-based working environment for all," Mr. Ahmed Abdul Hussain added.
Explaining the selection process, Mark Warrington, Vice President Construction Safety, EHS said:
"The submissions went through a rigorous process of selection and the shortlisted companies were audited by a panel of health and safety professionals. The panel looked for evidence that a company had adopted a systematic approach to health and safety management. It was also important for the panel to see evidence of top management commitment and involvement with health and safety; to be effective health and safety must be driven by top management. Statutory compliance was the minimum standard that we accepted, the winners were all exceeding these basic requirements."
The award ceremony on the evening of the 28th November will be attended by senior EHS and Dubaiworld representatives as well as guest representatives from international societies and institutions.
There will be a total of 23 awards given out during the evenings ceremony, each of which will be in recognition of outstanding environmental, health and safety performance.
