3369 pictures vie for the "Rediscover Egypt" awards sponsored by Visa and the Ministry of Tourism
Videos and pictures of the competition were viewed by almost 900,000 fans
The "Rediscover Egypt" campaign, the first promotional activity carried out by Visa as part of a memorandum of understanding signed recently with the Ministry of Tourism, managed to reach more than 11 million users of social media platforms in four weeks. Designed to promote Egypt as the best tourist destination, the campaign included a photography competition on the Visa Facebook page, allowing fans to compete using their photos of Egypt's places and people.
Through dedicated applications, approximately859 people uploaded 3369 pictures of Egyptian cities and people, generatingover 27,000 votes, 117,000 views, and 125,000 likes on Facebook posts and tweets on Twitter. More than 780,000 viewers checked both videos of the competition on YouTube.
The Visa Facebook page witnessed over 5% increase in its fans from Egypt, followed by fans from Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, KSA, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, UAE, and Morocco.
Visa, Ministry of Tourism, and the Egyptian Tourism Authority joined forces to helpstimulate the Egyptian economy through increasing domestic and inbound tourism leveraging social media.
The "Rediscover Egypt" campaign is a unique photography competition, allowing fans to compete using their photos of Egypt's places and people, for a weekly prize of a Visa gift card worth of $250 along the span of five weeks. A grand prize of $5,000 value trip to a city of his/her choice in Egypt will be awarded to the most liked photo of the five weekly winners. In addition to the six winners, Visa will select its favorite five pictures, "Visa Favorites" and award the winners a Visa gift card worth of $250 each. The competition offersfans the opportunity to showcase their pictures of Egypt and to vote for their most liked places and faces of this ancient, yet vibrant country. The campaign will end in a couple of weeks and Visa will announce names of the winners along with their most liked pictures.
