Cairo, Egypt: The impressive growth of new maritime projects in Egypt has attracted high demand for leisure boats, with local and international customers looking to invest in the booming market.
Key developments have seen a significant growth in orders for leisure marine watercraft for Egypt's boat builders and distributors including the Sahl Hasheesh Marina and Port Ghalib Marina in the Red Sea, as well as the 480-berth Porto Marina in El Alamein.
As the market continues to strengthen, Egypt-based manufacturers are producing more high performance and luxury boats to cater to the demand, as well exhibiting at important industry events like the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS), the Middle East's largest boat show.
Organised by Dubai world Trade Centre and running from the 11-15 March 2008 visitors can expect to see an impressive display from Egypt-based exhibitors at this years show including Shama Yachts and DeBirs Yachts.
Egypt continues to see an increase in hosting an array of yachts on the red sea, and with the number of waterfront developments and marinas on the rise, the country is set to expect a strong demand for more leisure boats to fill its famous coastlines.
"The marine industry in Egypt is witnessing exceptional growth and we look forward to welcoming several of these key manufacturers to the Dubai International Boat Show, the largest of its kind in the Middle East and the most important show for buyers and exhibitors alike," said Joanne Cook, Industry Group Manager, DWTC.
"With more maritime projects in development, Dubai International Boat Show continues to attract a high number of visitors and prospective buyers from Egypt and North Africa, where a huge variety of state-of-the-art yachts and equipment will be showcased."
One of the Egyptian exhibitors at this year's Dubai International Boat Show is Alexandria-based DeBirs Yachts, which specializes in the construction of 25 - 30 metre custom fibreglass luxury motor yachts.
Established at the Dutch Yard in the Amria Free Zone in 1998, DeBirs has been a key player in the growth of the Egypt and North African leisure marine market with superyachts in the 82, 85, and 86 Raised Pilot House (RPH) and 100 Sports Yacht range attracting buyers from across the world.
"DeBirs has seen a great increase in demand for superyachts thanks to new marina projects and exposure from important global events like the Dubai International Boat Show. For over 10 years, relationship building continues to be one of our key tasks at the show and we look forward to developing even stronger links with new and established clients this year," said Tarek M. Ragheb, Chairman of DeBirs Yachts.
"Egypt is quickly positioning itself as one of the most desirable boating locations in the world with new marinas and waterfront developments nearing completion. In order to fully benefit from this growth, our participation at the Dubai International Boat Show is crucial and enables us to reach a range of potential customers from around the world," concluded Tarek M. Ragheb, Chairman of DeBirs Yachts.
Another company enjoying huge demand on its luxury yachts is Shama Marine Industries, one of Egypt's largest privately owned and managed manufacturers of fibre glass motor yachts, which last year launched its new 30 metre long luxury Super Sports yacht.
"Egypt's renowned coastline continues to be a star attraction for residents and international visitors, which has reflected on the growth of the marine industry in the past years. This demand has had a tremendous impact for our company and with our participation at DIBS, we look to increase our presence across the region," said Amr Sedik, Marketing Manager, Shama Yachts.
Furthermore because of the increase in marina space on Egypt's world-famous coastline, many owners are choosing to permanently moor their boats in Egypt rather than elsewhere in the Mediterranean, as they would have traditionally done.
"Because of the reputation that DIBS holds as one of the most important boat shows in the Middle East, our participation allows us to meet new international and local companies who could have an interest in our products as well as display our full portfolio to an impressive number of visitors at the show," added Sedik.
Many of the international investors who are purchasing watercraft in Egypt come from a number of countries such as UK, France, Germany and the USA, as well as new markets like Russia and India and the CIS.
The Dubai International Boat Show will take place from 11 - 15 March 2008 at the Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi, and is expected to generate multi-million dollar business orders and deals for the booming Middle East leisure marine industry.
