First half retail turnover of US $75 million up 19%
8th August 2010, Abu Dhabi, UAE: Duty Free retail turnover at Abu Dhabi International Airport grew 19% during the first half of 2010 to US $75 million, outperforming the airport's passenger growth of 11.7% over the same period. Furthermore, spend per passenger increased by 7.2% amounting to US $14.47.
Huraiz Almur bin Huraiz, Abu Dhabi Airports Company's Chief Commercial Officer, said: "Retail spending at our airport is significantly stronger than passenger growth, a clear sign that we are succeeding in encouraging travelers to spend more. We believe two key trends are at play: firstly consumer confidence is returning, following the impact of the global economic recession, and secondly ADAC's investment program in Terminal 1 and the upgraded retail offerings in Terminal 3 are delivering results. Our Shop-Dine-Unwind retail proposition is really reaching out to our customers."
All categories have performed strongly, with Luxury, Perfume & Cosmetics, Liquor, Gold and Electronics seeing particularly strong returns.

About Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC)
Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) is a public joint-stock company wholly owned by the Abu Dhabi Government. It was incorporated by Amiri Decree number 5, issued on 4 March 2006, to spearhead the development of the Emirate's aviation infrastructure. In September 2006, ADAC assumed responsibility for the operation and management of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain International Airports. These airports are geared to serve the various segments of air travellers, the aviation marketplace, and will help contribute to Abu Dhabi's development as a destination for both business and leisure tourism. Currently under way is the multi-billion dollar re-development and expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport designed to increase the overall capacity of the airport to more than 20 million passengers per year. As part of this redevelopment, a second runway and a third terminal have been completed.
