Manama, Bahrain - This November the Australian V8 Supercars will ride on Dunlop tyres at the championship being held in Bahrain. The V8 Supercars are fitted with Dunlop 'control tyres' manufactured at the company's specialised racing tyre factory in Nagoya, Japan. Dunlop Tyres have a long and successful history with Australian Motorsport for over 40 years and have won more Bathurst titles than any other tyre manufacturer. This year Dunlop continues its support and will supply around 7500 control tyres to the Australian V8 Supercar Championship.
Dunlop manufactures a 'wet' and a 'dry' control tyre of a single compound and construction especially for the V8 series. Each tyre is handmade and it has to cope with track temperatures that vary from 10 degrees at Mallala to 55 degrees at Darwin.
The control tyre has to be a 'steer' tyre and a 'drive' tyre and it needs to grip 15 different track surfaces. Some of the key features of the Dunlop 'control tyre' are High Modules Overlay (provides strength and controls casing shape at high speeds), Jointless Band Construction (increases steering response and high speed stability and maximizes tyre footprint area, permits more consistent tyre uniformity), High Tensile Wire Belt Cords (stabilizes tyre dimensions) and High Tensile Beed Wires (greater beed strength, strong anchor for casing piles, prevents tyre turning on the rim).
