The battle to find the UAE's ultimate Cyber Warriors for 2003 is to get underway later this month when global and regional digital leader, LG Electronics, stages its second ‘Cyber Cup Championship’ at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai.

To be held from August 24-28, the tournament, which boasts a prize fund of US $30,000, will centre around two of cyber world's most popular games in Sierra's multi-player Half Life ‘Counter Strike’ and Microsoft's ‘Age Of Mythology.’  ‘Counter Strike’ will be played by teams of five while ‘Age of Mythology’ will be the game for individuals.

The US $30,000 prize fund is to be shared between the first four winners of each game.

This year LG plans to stages a free practice day, one day prior to the qualifiers, when players can practice for free on site.

Counter Strike qualifiers will be held on August 25 and 26. The Age Of Mythology qualifiers will take place on August 27, with the finals scheduled for August 28.

"We are planning this year to make the championship very much a spectator event with some side-line appearances by a popular music star, who will perform live at the venue," explained K.H. Kim, I.T. Products Manager, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.

The LG Cyber Cup Championship 2003 follows a highly successful inaugural event staged in the UAE last year.

"The initial tournament was oversubscribed and a tremendous success among the online gaming community," explained Kim. "This influenced our decision to make the championship an annual event.

"The re-staging of the tournament also reflects LG’s desire to be known as a leader in the I.T. products field, particularly in light of the recent introduction into the Middle East of LG PCs and notebooks. On-line gamers demand the very highest specification products and LG can meet their needs."

Would be contestants can register for the LG Cyber Cup by logging on to www.gamefrontier.com - the website of the industry consultants appointed by LG to run the tournament. Contestants will be required to pay a nominal entry fee of US $6 per player per game.

"The LG Cyber Cup will take gaming in the UAE to new heights and bring the promise of professional gaming one step closer in the Emirates," explained Jaffer Mir, Managing Director, Game Frontier.

"LG Electronics and Game Frontier will bring together the best gamers in the UAE in a showcase competition. Over the last 12 months we have seen UAE demand for electronic gaming events increase remarkably. For the LG Cyber Cup 2003 we have provided a gaming interaction concept that is technically and visually superior to anything seen here before."
