Roads & Transport Authority - Zakia Suhail Al Musharrakh - As part of the official UAE celebrations of the 40th National Day, the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching an array of events & programs highlighted by a human flag of the UAE comprising 900 cabdrivers as well as other activities which were kick started on 17 November and set to continue through the final ceremony on 2 December 2011.

Engineer Yousef Al Ali, Acting CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation, revealed that the concept of forming the UAE flag through a bunch of 900 of the best DTC cabdrivers was being materialized through a comprehensive team headed by him to look into the implementation of the idea on the second of December. "Another series of events and activities will be run in a distinctive style during the UAE's celebrations of the National Day as these festivities as a gesture of giving back to the first cohort and recognition of Their Highnesses the late founders of the Federation.

"Forming the flag by 900 volunteer drivers has been well managed such that it won't have negative repercussions on the operational processes of the DTC in terms of taxicabs availability in various locations. Each group will carry one of the four colours of the flag before raising the logo of the National Day and the Spirit of the Union with the logo of the DTC. Then a portrait of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan will be formed while the folklore bands will be in place to enrich the festive atmosphere among others. The Spirit of the Union logo will be placed on 100 taxicabs of the DTC and gifts will be offered to visitors arriving through Dubai airports. The events are supported by a host of DTC partners & suppliers including: the Ministry of Interior, General HQ of Dubai Police, Unified Ambulance Centre, Al Futtaim, Arabian Automobiles, Alpina Chocolate, and Real Image. This event has also been added as part of the key events of the Executive Council and posted in the official website of the National Day celebrations.

"A team has been set up to prepare for the National Day celebrations and the event comprises a diverse cast of activities including hoisting the UAE flag on the main buildings of the DTC and decorating them with the UAE flag and Spirit of the Union logo as well as extensive decorations of all other internal facilities. There will also be shows featuring handicrafts like Talee, Sadu, fishing nets ... etc in addition to shows presented by children popular games band on Thursday, November 24, 2011 in the backyard of the main gate (Drivers Services Center Gate).

"The official celebrations of the DTC involve the participation of all DTC employees on Wednesday 30 November 2011 at the front yard of the DTC building through running a host of events and quizzes (Q & A), tents, shed gatherings, poetry and popular dishes such as Luqaimat (bites), yeast bread and baked tortillas, which will be distributed freely to the audience. A 40-cabdriver rally will also be staged within DTC office compounds which will ultimately form the name of the United Arab Emirates abbreviated in English, besides presenting a drama (Taxi Time) contributed by DTC staff and cabbies.
