Dubai, UAE : Dubai Police and the Dubai Police Scientists Council announced the winners of the region’s first ‘Kaggle Days’. A two-day competition that drew the attention of more than 150 leading data scientists from around the world.

With the goal to augment Dubai’s safety, innovation and happiness, Dubai Police continues to build its capabilities to solve crimes that increasingly occur online, deploy robots to patrol communities to upkeep public safety and leverage AI technologies to prevent, detect and investigate criminal offenses.

Hosted at Ai Everything this week, Kaggle Days has garnered widespread momentum amongst hundreds of thousands of data scientists worldwide, AI experts and technology enthusiasts with events being held from Warsaw to Paris and from Dubai to Toronto. Its members have concentrated their combined intelligence on issues that unlock immeasurable benefits for society.

Major Dr. Rashid Hamdan AlGhafari, Chairman of the Dubai Police Scientists Council, said, “Aligned with the UAE National AI Strategy 2031 and Centennial 2071, Dubai Police has developed its own AI strategy. With data becoming the most valuable currency of the future, organizing the region’s first Kaggle Days with some of the world’s leading data scientists was a great success. Collectively we have explored predictive solutions that would enable us to increase the safety, and thus the happiness of our residents in Dubai.”

Structured in a way that would allow for the data scientists to come up with the most innovative solutions, the competition started off on day one with workshops given by some of Kaggle’s most prominent Grandmasters. On the second day, and over a course of 9 hours, teams of select groups of data scientists tried to solve complex issues relating to reducing crime levels, preventing cyber-crime and decreasing road incidents.

With some starting off as novices within the Kaggle community and progressing to contributors and experts, the three winning teams are now one step closer to becoming Kaggle masters and grandmasters – the highest status that can be achieved within the 1 million users-strong global Kaggle community.

Amongst the winning team were Careem’s Pavel Kochetkov, Richard Brooker and Vitalii Duk. The latter of which said, “I have been into data science and machine learning for over 5 years now and I really enjoyed the Kaggle Days competition, despite being very challenging.”
