Al Awadi: Current Affairs to reflect all sides of the community
Dubai, 30th January, 2007: Dubai One TV announced today that "Emirates News," the channel's first English language news bulletin programme will hit the air waves from February 1st, 2007. The bulletin will be broadcast daily from the News Centre at Dubai Media City at 7:30pm UAE time. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the News Centre in the presence of Najla Al Awadi, Deputy CEO, Dubai Media Incorporated and Ahmed Abdulkarim Julfar, Chief Operating Officer, etisalat which will be sponsoring the programme.
Speaking at the press conference, Najla Al Awadi said: "The bulletin will reflect the social issues of the UAE, covering stories of both UAE nationals and expatriates. We want to tell the stories of various communities and reflect the mix of people living in the UAE."
Najla noted that the bulletin will not be sensationalistic but research driven. The news will focus on the role of the journalist, how he or she interprets the facts in an intelligent way.
Speaking about the correspondents for the bulleting, Najla noted that they come from strong journalism background including four UAE nationals who will be involved in writing the news being correspondents.
Commenting on etisalat's sponsorship of the Emirates News programme, Ahmed Abdulkarim Julfar, COO of etisalat said: "Since its inception, etisalat has grasped each and every opportunity to support the UAE community. The sponsorship of Emirates News is merely another step in etisalat's well-known commitment towards society. The new programme will attract huge attention from the general public especially as it builds on the success of the Arabic version on Dubai TV that continuously covers the day-to-day life of all UAE residents."
He added that etisalat is no stranger to the TV industry. Its subsidiary E-Vision, which is the leading digital cable TV provider in the region, has incorporated etisalat in many manners into this rapidly expanding sector. E-Vision was established in April 2000 as the UAE's sole cable TV provider. This promising company, which started with an initial coverage of 20,000 homes, currently reaches more than 350,000 homes across the emirates with a solid 1,000,000 viewers.
