Dubai, 29 May 2007: Dubai Municipality has won this year's ICT Excellence Award in the category of "eService Provider Organization of the Year." The winners of the 12th Middle East ICT Excellence Award were honored in a award ceremony at the Burj Al Arab, Dubai, on Sunday.

The awards is organized by the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute, to highlight the best examples of ICT planning and implementation by business and government organizations from the Middle East.

Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, UAE Minister of Environment & Water while honoring the winners said: "Technological advancement has been blurring the boundary between telecommunications, broadcasting and information technology and we need to put much attention to raise the professional competency and qualification of the ICT industry in the region."

Eng. Hussein Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of the Dubai Municipality, addressed the ceremony and highlighted the initiatives of the Dubai Municipality in bringing advanced technologies in various sectors in the municipality services. Dubai Municipality was presented with the award for providing smart government and business applications which claim obvious benefits to the citizens and businesses. The services provided cost efficient for both the customer and the organization and also reduce service time and unwanted processes and other redundancies.

Speaking about the awards, Ali Al Kamali, Chairman, Middle East Excellence Awards Institute said, "By recognizing the outstanding players in regional IT landscape, the awards aim to create the real shift in mindset of the region to come out and take benefits from ICT for the betterment of the region. There are many innovative services being provided across the public sectors which very often do not get the publicity and reward that they deserve. The awards will promote a greater sense of achievement among regional stakeholders of e-Government and ICT".

This year's winners also included: eCountry Best ICT Initiatives Award which was won by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, KSA; ICT Personality 2007 which was won by Dr. Mervat M. Tallawy, Executive Secretary of ESCWA; Information and Knowledge Portal of the Year which was won by www.maktoob.com; Public Information Portal of the Year which was won by www.alriyadh.gov.sa, Emirate of Al Riyadh - KSA; and ICT Project 2007 which was won by Prime Minister's Diwan, KSA.
