A 'Health Awareness Day' was organised by the Dubai Medical College (DMC) to emphasise the importance of a healthy lifestyle and eating habits. The events began with a walkathon around the Arabian Centre in association with the Dubai Police, followed by athletic sports at the college grounds. A detailed screening and assessment of basic parameters such as BMI (Body Mass Index), cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar levels for the students was conducted by Dr Nazneen Hussain and Dr. Aisha Salim from the Department of Health - Al Khwaneej Primary Healthcare Centre. This was followed by a lecture on 'Metabolic Syndrome' by Dr. Mohammed Obaida.

The event also laid emphasis on a healthy diet. A workshop on planning a balanced diet was organised by Ms. Reema Sultan, clinical dietician from Al Qassimi hospital, Sharjah who offered valuable insights on making the right choices. The event saw participation from over 100 students.

Professor Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed, Dean of DMC commented, "The present generation is exposed to increased risk factors caused by stress, overweight and a sedentary lifestyle. This initiative aims to highlight and implement a healthy lifestyle through easy choices such as walking, a healthy diet and sports. Such events play a key role in emphasising the responsibilities of our students as future medical professionals."

DMC, a part of the S.S. Lootah Group has been setting new standards for excellence in healthcare education. The college has implemented the EFQM excellence model, making it the first medical college in the UAE to do so. DMC has been awarded the 'Dubai Quality Appreciation Program' for its best practices in the medical curriculum delivery process.

About Dubai Medical College (DMC)
Dubai Medical College, part of the S.S. Lootah Group, was established in 1986 exclusively for girls, by Haj Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah, Founder and Chairman of the Group. The fact that DMC is solely for girls and that it was started at a time when higher education for girls in the region was lagging far behind than that of the developed countries makes the college very unique even to this day. The 5 year course is accredited by 'Ministry of Higher Education' and the college is enlisted in the World Health Organisation (WHO) Directory of Medical Schools. The college has a unique arrangement with the Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS), for the students to undergo clinical training at the DOHMS hospitals. It was awarded the 'Dubai Quality Appreciation Program' (DQAP) in 2006.
