Donation will aid in the construction of fifteen schools
Dubai, 14 October 2007: His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met with Saad Abdul Razzaq, Group Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) Group, who announced a AED21 million donation on behalf of the group to 'Dubai Cares', the charity drive held during the Holy Month of Ramadan to help educate one million children in poor countries.
"This contribution comes in response to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who called on the nation's financial institutions to participate in this humanitarian effort," said Abdul Razzaq.
The donation - which will be used to help build and operate fifteen schools -follows the directives of Dr. Mohammed Khalfan bin Kharbash, Minister of State for Financial and Industrial Affairs and Chairman of Dubai Islamic Bank, who stressed the group's obligation to respond to HH's call to help provide basic education to children in poverty-stricken countries
Abdul Razzaq expressed his gratitude to His Highness for paying considerable attention on humanitarian issues around the world and said: "'Dubai Cares' gives hope to millions of children by helping them obtain access to primary education, which will benefit them now and in future. It is important for all of us to work hard to help provide solutions to these global problems."
The donation reflects DIB's commitment to global issues and is another example of its support of social and humanitarian issues and charities in the UAE and across the Arab and Islamic world. Its track record in Corporate Social Responsibility reflects DIB's values and goals which are rooted in the principles of Islamic Sharia'a law.
Abdul Razzaq concluded the meeting by remarking that this collective effort between "Dubai Cares" and DIB and the initiatives launched by the campaign were clear evidence of the strong spirit and values in Dubai society in general, and a testament to the firm resolve of the individuals and institutions of Dubai working together to make the world a better place for all.
'Dubai Cares' joins a list of international initiatives launched in Dubai that express Dubai's will to play an effective role contributing to achieving the world's mission to secure a better tomorrow for future generations. The campaign is Dubai's contribution to a global drive to assist countries in achieving their U.N. Millennium Development Goals for providing Children's Primary Education to every child by 2015.
