Internationally accredited course marks the start of the 2008 training calendar at the Academy as it plans to offer more than 50 courses this year.
Dubai - The Dubai Industrial academy, a division of Dubai Industrial City, has kicked of its first training course with a course on Management Safety to delegates representing private companies across Dubai.
The four days Management Course is an accredited industrial training program by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), a London-based internationally recognized awarding body, and a world leader in the field of Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment (QHSE) accreditation.
Delegates who successfully complete an assignment set at the end of the course - implemented in their workplace, will receive the IOSH Managing Safety certificate.
Rashed Al Ansari, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer, explained that the course deals with a key focus issue of Dubai Industrial City and the industrial community in the UAE.
"Safety is a key cornerstone for us and the entire industrial sector. This accredited course will help professionals in the industrial sector develop better skills on the management of safety in the workplace, especially considering delegates will have to successfully complete a task at their work place to earn their IOSH certification. The task is part of our focus to offer practical training to support the classroom teaching," he added.
Rashed noted that the academy will offer Dubai and the region with a complete and diverse industrial training calendar in 2008, starting with four courses in February that would gradually increase to more than 50 courses.
"The academy plans to offer the industrial sector in excess of 50 courses covering eight industrial sectors of Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment (QHSE), mechanical engineering, electrical and power engineering, instrumentation, chemical process and laboratory operations, oil and gas, construction, as well as technical and supervisory development."
Rashed added that the academy was equipped with a state-of-the-art examination hall according to international standards allowing it to offer internationally accredited courses and degrees.
"The majority of courses will be accredited by international bodies and offer the participants an 'inclusive training approach of theoretical classroom teaching and practical hands-on training. Upon completion of the course, the employee will be ready to implement the new skill sets he has been trained on at the work. We have a clear mandate to develop and boost the skills of people working in the industrial sector by merging theory and practice."
The Dubai Industrial Academy, the first of its kind in the UAE, is a dedicated vocational training centre set up by Dubai Industrial City, with a focus on providing a wide range of training solutions to serve the growing needs of the industrial sector in the UAE and the region.
All the courses offered will primarily serve six major industrial sectors - food and beverage, base metal, mineral products, chemicals, transport equipment and parts, and machinery and mechanical equipment industries - the same six zones that Dubai Industrial City focuses on.
DIA is set up by Dubai Industrial City in partnership with the UK-based Technical Training Centre (TTE) having earned the 'Centre of Vocational Excellence' from the UK Government.
