Dubai, 9 May 2006 - Twenty-two boys and girls who lost their families during the tsunami in Sri Lanka now have a home and can continue their education in the 'Children Home Center' in Negombo in Sri Lanka, with the support 'Trek 4 Tsunami' walk organized in Dubai by Julie Amer of Mountain High and Jannike Moe of Dubai Duty Free.

Trek 4 Tsunami raised Dhs 100,000  which were donated to two  re-construction projects: The Child Support Centre For the Construction of Children's Homes in Uswatakeiyawa organized by King's Revival International Charitable Trust and Sri Lankan Airlines Project of Re-construction of Kalmunai Primary School.

"Trek 4 Tsunami' was in support of something that was very close to our hearts and we are delighted with the result." said Jannike. "We will be following the development of the two projects and encourage people to continue their support and visit the orphanage and the school in Sri Lanka upon completion",  added Julie.

"Our program to save the tsunami orphans of Sri Lanka is becoming a reality thanks to donations from the people of Dubai like "Trek 4 Tsunami" and many others, said Dr. Dilkumar, Chairman of King's Revival International Charitable Trust, an organisation registered with Dubai Aid and Humanitarian City, which received the donation. "We provide the children with decent living and education, protect them and make sure they are surrounded with the warmth and emotional support that they need to cope with their loss and trauma and move on with their lives," he explained.

King's Revival International Charitable Trust (KRICT) established the 'Children Home Center' in Negombo in Sri Lanka: an orphanage providing young tsunami, internal ethnic war orphans and street children with a roof, education, medical care, clothing and psychological care. Twenty-two children are currently benefiting from this program. A new piece of land has been procured and by the end of the year six new houses will be built to welcome more children.

Barbara Castek, CEO of Dubai Aid and Humanitarian City, who witnessed the initiation and development of this project said: "The future of tsunami orphans is one of the most urgent and sensitive issues that the humanitarian community has to deal with since the tragedy. The 'Children Support Center' is an intelligent and farsighted example of what can be done for these children. We hope that such a fruitful cooperation between humanitarian donors, fundraisers and field operators will develop and inspire many other initiatives in this sense."
