Dubai: The 2007/2008 motorsport season is scheduled to kick off in September with a pre-season test for drivers and riders in the car and motorcyle classes with the season proper starting on 19 October 2007 at the Dubai Autodrome. The thrust of the national racing will revolve around the UAE National Superstock Bike Championship including Production Bike Class, the Gulf Radical Cup and DAMC Open Saloon Series incorporating the GTI Cup.
The newly formed DAMC Open Saloon Series is based on touring car style racing with street cars adapted to track regulations doing battle. Boosting the field will be the GTI Cup which continues for the third year. The Gulf Radical Cup is expected to feature s competitive and large field of drivers battling it out on some of the fastest race cars in the region. The ever popular and spectacular motocycle racing classes will feature Superstock style machinery and production motorcycles which are available from dealers.
The Dubai Autodrome will continue to provide the opportunity for local motorsport to feature on international race dates and has included the national racing classes on a number of international events including the Dubai Motorsport Festival which will take place in November at the venue. The local competitors will also feature on the newly formed Grand Race Weekends which will include Speedcar and GP2 Asia. Being billed on the same day as such high profile events gives the local competitors added incentive to perform at a high level throughout the season.
Also on the 2007/2008 calendar is the grass roots Redline Challenge series for novice drivers and those wanting to experience high performance competition on a budget. The Redline Challenge event consists of three elements of track activities:
1. Autotest on a tight, de-markated area teting skill and finesse behind the wheel;
2. Autosprint on one of the designated (for the particular event) Dubai Autodrome circuit configurations.
The Kartdrome is currently scheduled to host 5 confirmed events of the UAE Karting Championship with a couple more awaiting finalisation from the organising bodies. Confirmed classes for each karting national event include: Cadets for 7 to 12 year olds, Max Junior for 13 to 16 year olds, Rotax Max Challenge (for over 16 year olds) including the Rotax Max Masters and the TAG Class (for over 16 year olds).
With the abovementioned events on the menu, race days at the Dubai Autodrome and the Kartdrome from September 2007 until May 2008 promise to be a feast for motorsport fans. The dates for the national race days below, inked by the ATCUAE and EMSF, are provisional.
