Another regional first set by the Middle East's fastest-growing telecommunications company

Dubai, UAE, 11 February 2014: In conjunction with du's support of the 2nd Government Summit as Headline Partner, and in line with the company's commitment to supporting the Smart City initiative announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, du, the fastest-growing telecommunications company in the Middle East, has achieved another regional first with the introduction of Smart Telecom Building Infrastructure Guidelines.

The transformative project, which will be launched soon, was engineered and developed by du's network team. It will enable developers to design and build future-proof telecom services in their properties. Most importantly, they will accommodate all future needs of smart communications. This is in support of the Dubai Smart City initiative, which will see the emirate's government services and the public linked through the use of smart devices, easily accessible using high-speed wireless internet connections.

du's Smart Telecom Building Infrastructure Guidelines are a translation of HH Sheikh Mohammed's statement: "As a smart city, government departments will be inter-connected to provide faster services and information to all citizens and guests. We strive to create a new smart concept in running cities."

Farid Faraidooni, Chief Operations Officers, du, said: "Our new guidelines underscore our commitment to being an integral part of the Smart City and Smart Government vision. They have been designed using our own experience, as a continuation of our strategy as an enabler of smart communications in the UAE. The guidelines are intended to ensure flexibility and adaptability in building architecture, while maintaining the quality and standard of Smart Telecom requirements. By engaging with developers at the early stages of building construction, we will help to found Smart Buildings from now on."

The benefits of du's new guidelines will be enjoyed by all categories of property developments, including existing and new projects, in terms of providing state-of-the-art, future-proof telecommunications and multimedia smart services to their tenants. Different building types, including residential villas, commercial towers, shopping malls and more, are covered by the guidelines.

du's guidelines are structured to cover all aspects of telecom infrastructure, such as telecom spaces, electromechanical works, pathways and telecom cables specs. They will lead to increased flexibility in installing telecom infrastructure in existing and future property developments, with reduced effort and space, and less complexity in managing electrical installations.

The complete guidelines brochure will be available soon for any developer who approaches du for a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Within the brochure are design guidelines for in-building telecom infrastructure to enable property developers to deliver high-quality, future-proof smart telecommunications services to their tenants. It also guides property developers through the NOC process that includes design validation, materials checking and site inspections, through to final implementation.

It includes clear measures, including the establishment of a Smart Integrated Communications room, which replaces what used to be called a Telecom Room. Also, by following these guidelines, developers will achieve the concept of 'Connect anywhere and everywhere', as opposed to providing tenants with limited connectivity possibilities.
