METITO, the international water, wastewater treatment and desalination experts, have discussed opportunities to undertake projects in Cuba during a meeting with Dr Fidel Castro Junior, who is the son of Cuban President Dr Fidel Castro.
Prof. Dr Castro, a trained scientist, and an academician at the Cuban Academy of Sciences, visited METITO, the leading water, waste water treatment and desalination company in the Arab world, during his recent visit to the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Castro was specifically interested in Metito's desalination capabilities and how it could be applied in Cuba.
He visited the company's Headquarters for Europe, Asia and Africa in Sharjah and met with METITO's Chief Executive Officer Mutaz Ghandour and other Group Directors. Upon his request he was accompanied to visit a number of desalination plants installed by METITO in the UAE.
Ghandour said: "Dr Castro was specifically interested in our application of desalination technologies to provide drinking water and the way METITO is implementing the concessions projects through the BOT, build, operate, transfer - concept in the region".
"We also discussed ways that METITO will apply its capabilities in BOT for projects in Cuba in the future. As a company that operates throughout the world we would welcome the opportunity to work in Cuba and use our expertise to help enhance the infrastructure of that country".
"Dr Castro was impressed with the international quality of the projects that we have undertaken in the UAE and around the world. As a scientist he clearly appreciated the technology that we use as a company and how that could be used to benefit the people of Cuba."
As the leading desalination company in the Arab World and a world leader in the use of reverse osmosis technology for transforming sea or water into drinkable water, METITO was the only desalination company that Dr Castro visited during his recent tour of several countries including the UAE.
METITO is the leading international company for the provision of wastewater treatment, desalination and water supply projects. In the UAE it operates its European, Asian and African operations from its headquarters in Sharjah and has a factory and laboratory facility in the Hamriya Free Zone.
