Doha Bank has agreed with Baytur Construction & Contracting Co. (Qatar) to part finance their ongoing project of The Museum of Islamic Arts. The project which is worth QR 369 Million was awarded to the Turkish contractor by Qatar Petroleum and is expected to be completed by the 31.12.2005. The architect of the Museum is the New York based I. M. Pei, who is renowned for numerous important buildings around the world.
The Museum will house a selection of the finest treasures of Islamic Art and is expected to become a proud element of Doha City. A pair of stacked vehicles, bridges and a single pedestrian bridge provides the sole means of access to the museum's offshore location on the bay. Cast- in-place coloured architectural waffle slabs and 6500 cu.m of natural stone works are among important features of the building.
BAYTUR Insaat Taahhut A.S. holds a distinguished position among the major contracting firms in Turkey as they have been listed every year in the "Top 225 International Contractors" published by Engineering News Record magazine. The firm also has operations in Dubai as BAYTUR - BIN BELILA which is responsible for construction of Palm island apartments (Nakheel).
Doha Bank's Acting General Manager Mr. R. Seetharaman expressed the importance of financing such a proud element of Doha City to Mr. Oktay Yavuz, CEO of BAYTUR and commented upon the opportunities which lie ahead for international contractors in the upcoming infrastructure projects in the State of Qatar.
