Dubai, 10 May 2006
Dubai Municipality is offering building consultants and architects an opportunity to keep abreast with the latest trends in structural design of high-rise buildings that can withstand earthquakes and heavy storms.
According to Khalid Mohammed Saleh, Director of Building Department at Dubai Municipality, a day-long seminar will be organised by the civic body on Tuesday 16 May 2006 at the City Hall from 8 am to 6 pm which will provide participants with the latest information on using advanced programmes in high-rise building designs.
"We hope this seminar will be extremely useful for architects and consultants, especially in the wake of the boom Dubai witnesses at present in the number of high-rise buildings," said Saleh.
He added that Prof. Ashraf Habibulla, President and CEO of the US-based Computers and Structures Inc. (CSI), and Syed Hassanain, Executive Vice-President of CSI, will lead the seminar which is designed to give practical examples of designs of tall buildings and highlight the proper usage of input data to account for the effect of seismic and wind forces. Emphasis will be placed on powerful objects based modelling; multi story steel and concrete frame design and optimization; complete shear wall modelling of curved walls; drafting and detailing; rigid diaphragm models and sloped diaphragms; and creep and shrinkage analysis.
Prof. Habibullah, a graduate of the University of California, is member of the American society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute, the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and the International Code Council. For over 30 years he has been active as a consultant, researcher and educator, conducting international courses and seminars on analytical techniques and numerical methods used in the development of software for structural and earthquake engineering.
