Under the patronage of the Assistant Director General for Health, Safety and Environment Monitoring Eng. Salem Bin Mesmar the Buildings Department organized a workshop to discuss the preparation and updating of the Dubai Municipality's sectoral strategic plan for 2010-2014 of the emirate in the field of public health and safety on August 19.

The workshop held at the Municipality Training Center was part of the preparation of Dubai Municipality's sectoral strategic plan for 2010-2014 of the emirate in the field of public health and safety and in keeping with the scientific and practical approach of the Strategic Plan of the Government of Dubai by updating it within the frame work of project in the context of the corporate system for strategic planning for the next five years.

The workshop witnessed the participation of experts in this field from the concerned government departments and representatives of major companies in the private sector as well as representatives from some of the relevant departments within the municipality.

On behalf of Eng. Khalid Mohammed Saleh, Director of Buildings Department Eng. Marwan Abdulla Al Mohammed, Head of Engineering Supervision Section and Team Leader for updating construction safety plan delivered the welcome address for the Buildings Department. He thanked the participants for their interaction with the team for the success of the workshop, stressing the desire of the senior leadership on the success of all that would improve the working environment of safety in construction.

Eng. Ahmad Khalil Abdul-Karim, Principal Safety Engineer conducted the workshop where he gave an audio-visual presentation that included a definition of the work plan on construction safety in the emirate of Dubai and the vision of the municipality for the future of this vital field.

He also presented some of the highlights of the achievements in the field of construction safety during the previous years with some statistics and benchmarking taking into consideration some incidents in the past five years. This was followed by an interactive session in which they pointed out some positive ideas and initiatives, and the weak points that accompanied the progress of safety in general and safety in construction work in particular to overcome them in the new plan.
