Concurrently with WETEX 2008 activities, DEWA signs contracts for 6 mega projects for the production of electricity, water desalination and reservoirs, main substations, and DFO pipeline with major national and international companies for the total cost of Dhs. 12 billions.

H. E. Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA signed the contracts on behalf of DEWA whilst the Executive Presidents and Managers signed the contracts on behalf of their respective companies.

H. E. Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer in his speech mentioned that these projects come in accordance with the directives of H. H. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, and Prime Minister and on the basis of DEWA's strategy that is part of Dubai Strategy.

Mr. Al Tayer stated the importance of these projects in fulfilling the needs of the different national economical sectors of electricity and water in order to satisfy the unprecedented growth in demand for DEWA's services for the ambitious projects in progress at the various sectors.

Mr. Al Tayer added that the first project is for the construction of a power and desalination station at Jebel Ali (M Station) at the cost of Dhs 10.15 billions. The M Station Power Package is a combined cycle cogeneration power plant at the cost of Dhs 6.2 billions comprising six Siemens V94.3 A Gas turbines, six Doosan HRSGs and 3 Alstom Steam turbines. The gross output of the plant shall be 2000 MW. The completion of the project is expected to be in the middle of 2010. The desalination package shall consist of 8 desalination units with an output of 17.5 MIGD per unit and 4 boilers with a total output of the plant of 140 MIGD, and the project is scheduled for completion by 1st June 2010.

The third contract for the construction of a DFO pipeline from JAFZ to Aweer Power Station will cost according to Mr. Tayer Dhs 155 millions. The project consists of 20" DFO pipeline and the scope of work includes all mechanical, civil, cooling, and protection & leak detection systems and cathodic protection system along with other works related to the project.

Fourth project consists of constructing 3-phase reservoir at Mushrif with a total storage capacity of 180 MIG. The contract includes all civil, mechanical, and interconnection to the existing pipelines power supplies, connection with SCADA and all other related jobs at the cost of Dhs 620 millions. The project completion time will be by April'2009.

The fifth contract is for the construction of two 400/132 kV substations at Barsha and Horse Race at the total cost of Dhs 816 millions and it is expected that the project be completed and to enter into service by the end of 2009.

The sixth contract relates also to a main transformer station 400/132 kV at Techno Park area for the supply of this important area with electricity in addition to the Industrial City, Jebel Ali, and Airport City. The project will be completed by February 2010.
