Dubai, July 19 2004 - New Dell OptiPlex SX and GX280 corporate desktop computers are now shipping to the Middle East with PCI-Express (PCIe), the first major system bus architecture change in a decade, and DDR2 system memory.

Based on the new Intel 915G Express chipsets with the latest Pentium 4 processors, the OptiPlex? SX and GX280 systems are designed to help businesses of all sizes boost performance and productivity.  Integrated PCIe, with up to four times the input/output bandwidth of existing systems, and DDR2 memory allow customers take advantage of improved system, graphics and network performance.

"Many of our customers face high costs of supporting desktops that are past their prime," said Michael Collins, General Manager, Dell Middle East.  "Businesses can extend their competitive edge with new technology and balance ever-present budget concerns."

"Excessive support costs are inevitable with aging desktops because of increased component failure, software support issues and heightened security exposures, " Collins explained. "The new OptiPlex computers offer the latest technology in a platform that is stable and serviceable to address the performance, management and reliability needs of businesses."

Starting at AED3,150, the SX280 has a new industrial design for corporate customers in space-constrained workspaces such as hospitals, schools and retail settings.  It can be mounted horizontally or vertically underneath a desk, to a wall or behind the optional SX280 flat panel monitor.  At 26.3cm x 8.9cm x 25.2cm, the computer provides the space savings of a traditional all-in-one PC with the benefits of modularity for ease in serviceability and upgrade ability.  The system's hot-swappable media bay accommodates any module from the popular Dell Latitude D‑Family of notebooks, allowing users to share modules. The SX280 security features include a flexible, sequential locking system that prevents unauthorized access to components and media modules.

Available in small-form-factor, small desktop, or mini-tower chassis, the mainstream OptiPlex GX280 starts at AED3,150. All three chassis allow the option of a PCI-Express graphics solution from the 64MB ATI Radeon X300 SE card.  The GX280 also offers several optical drive options, as well as eight USB 2.0 ports.

Both the SX and GX280 include Intel Pentium 4 processors, Intel's new Graphics Media Accelerator 900 embedded graphics solution, supporting the latest DirectX and Open GL graphics standards, and Serial ATA hard drives from 40GB-250GB, offering increased bandwidth that allows faster and larger drives. All three GX280 chassis and the SX280 share a common software image.

OptiPlex, Dell Precision and Latitude systems can be remotely managed through Dell's OpenManage products, which are designed to empower IT professionals with tools that automate and simplify both hardware and software management. Products such as the OpenManage Client Administrator, based on Altiris technology, and OpenManage IT Assistant enable systems administrators to deploy, configure, monitor and remotely manage a large number of computer systems.
