Sharjah, May 11, 2011-- a delegation of students and faculty from Al Buraimi University College (BUC) in Oman has recently visited American University of Sharjah (AUS). The purpose of the visit was for the students to observe how the English language is taught in an American context, with several students on the trip intending to pursue master's degrees at AUS.
The delegation, consisting of around 20 female students and one faculty member, Dr. Rana Abdul Majeid, Head of the English Department in BUC, and Ms. Stacy Trimble from the university's administration were welcomed at the AUS Majlis by Dr. Linda Angell, Director of International Exchange Programs (IXO) at AUS.
The group toured the campus and library and met with faculty members from the Department of English, and sat in on some of the English classes. The visit ended with an informal mixer between faculty and students from both Al Buraimi University College and the AUS Department of English.
"This visit was a wonderful opportunity [for the BUC students] to be exposed to different methods of teaching. I'm glad that AUS was able to host this event and hope for more such events in the future," said Dr. John Battenburg, Head of the AUS Department of English.
Sabah Al Saadi, a BUC student majoring in literature, is planning to continue her master's degree at AUS, "The campus is beautiful, especially the library. By coming here [to pursue a master's degree] I really hope to improve my English skills," she said.
The visit was organized in collaboration with BUC by IXO and the Department of English.
