The first private hospital in Kuwait to introduce the Electroencephalography, Nerve Conduction Studies and the Electromyography machines
Kuwait - September 6th, 2011: Dar Al Shifa Hospital, one of Kuwait's leading private hospitals, announced today that it has introduced new groundbreaking neurology equipment which aims to offer a more thorough diagnosis of patients' neurological evaluation. The machines that Dar Al Shifa Hospital has introduced perform Electroencephalography (EEG), Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), and Electromyography (EMG). The machines can also implement the Evoked Potential Tests which include Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER), Somato-Sensory Evoked Potential (SSEP) and Visual Evoked Potential (VEP).
Dar Al Shifa Hospital is the only private healthcare organization in Kuwait that has introduced such leading equipment, and is also the only place where a neurologist interprets the results in conjunction with patients' clinical presentation. Patients will also find a qualified clinical neurologist that will assist them and provide the necessary support. The hospital's latest equipment aids in the assessment of the integrity and function of the brain, nerves, muscles and neuromuscular junction and their disorders.
Dr. Abdulaziz Ashkanani, Consultant Neurology and the Authorized spokesman for these machines at Dar Al Shifa Hospital said: "The advantage of having such equipment is that tests will be done for patients according to their convenience. This means that they will not have to wait for long, and will receive their results on the same day."
Tests can be performed in the afternoon, during the supervision of the attending neurologist, who is also available to discuss the findings with the patients if required.
The EEG measures brain waves. It is basically a readily available test that provides evidence of how the brain functions over time. The EMG however, finds diseases that damage muscle tissue, nerves, or even the junctions between nerves and muscle. The test also finds the cause of weakness, paralysis and even muscle twitching. An NCS on the other hand is done to find damage to the peripheral nervous system, which includes all the nerves that lead away from the brain and spinal cord along with the smaller nerves that branch out from those nerves.
"We offer the latest in electrodiagnostic testing with state-of-the-art equipment and perform diagnostic procedures from the routine nerve conduction studies and EMG to the more complex electrodiagnostics that include neuromuscular junction testing and single fiber EMG," added Dr. Ashkanani.
The recent achievement marks a key milestone for the hospital's continued pursuit of providing premium healthcare services to its patients that further adds value to their overall experience.
Dar Al Shifa Hospital was established in 1961, and has developed to become one of Kuwait's leading private healthcare providers. The hospital includes a wide range of departments that covers all specialties.
