Emirati national Roudha Bin Bahr ready to represent UAE in Global competition

Dubai - Fuelling the engineers of tomorrow, Danfoss will support Emirati engineering student, Roudha Bin Bahr in the WorldSkills 2017 competition.

The annual WorldSkills competition will be held in the UAE for the first time from 15-18 October 2017, welcoming over 100,000 visitors from around the world to the ADNEC in Abu Dhabi. Through providing close mentoring along with the necessary equipment, Danfoss will support Roudha on her journey leading up to and throughout the competition.

The only female engineer to compete in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning category, Roudha Bin Bahr is the first woman from the UAE to enter the WorldSkills competition in her field. Before entering WorldSkills, she participated in EmiratesSkills, where her talent and dedication drove her to success. Roudha is a motivated Chemical Engineering student and trains at SKM Air Conditioning LLC in Sharjah, one of Danfoss valuable customers.

In order to win the competition, Roudha must show her skills in the manufacturing of refrigeration and air conditioning products. The key elements of a successful candidate include a good understanding and ability to work on refrigeration systems, piping, electrical wiring and component & system installation. Roudha must demonstrate safe working practices throughout the competition, and should portray her knowledge and ability to replace refrigeration parts, as well as diagnose and repair malfunctions.

Ziad Al-Bawaliz, the Senior Director of Danfoss Cooling Turkey, Middle East and Africa, said, “Supporting and strengthening the skills of young people in our field is incredibly important to me on both a personal and professional level. As one of the largest engineering groups in the world, we have a responsibility to nurture and develop talent for generations to come – training the engineers of tomorrow. As part of our partnership, Roudha has access to all of the components and materials required for the competition, as well as over 30 hours of hands-on, expert training with one of our technical engineers Sami Jamil”

He added, “We are thrilled to be working with such a motivated student, and look forward to witnessing Roudha’s well-earned success in the competition.”

Roudha Bin Bahr stated, “Being the first UAE based female engineer to compete in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning category of a global competition is a huge motivation, and I have had such incredible support from my friends, family and from Danfoss. I wanted to work with Danfoss after finding out about their innovative online learning platform and the training schemes they create for young people. I have learned so much from my time with my mentor, Sami Jamil, who is one of the technical engineers at Danfoss – this is one of the most exciting parts of this experience and I find him very inspiring.”

Showcasing their dedication to the engineers of tomorrow, Danfoss have implemented an educational platform for students and young people in an online programme called Danfoss Learning. With courses developed by experts in their field, the personal portal provides a virtual classroom where students can master anything from basic operations to designing and installing advanced solutions.

The world’s biggest international vocational skills competition will welcome students below the age of 22 from 77 countries, competing in 51 skill categories. The closing ceremony will take place at the Abu Dhabi Du Arena on 19 October 2017. Developed in 1950, WorldSkills is the global hub for skills excellence and development.
