Muscat: Western Australia's largest and most multi-cultural university, Curtin University, announced its participation at the Global Higher Education Exhibition: GHEDEX 2012 for the first time, as Silver Sponsor. Scheduled to be held from 23 to 25 April 2012 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, GHEDEX is organised by Oman International Trade and Exhibitions (OITE) under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education.

Educational programs offered by Curtin University include undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business, humanities, health sciences, resources, engineering and related sciences. Curtin also offers research programs at master and doctoral levels focused on four distinct areas: minerals and energy, ICT and emerging technologies, health, and sustainable development.

"Our programs are focused on the provision of knowledge and skills to meet industry and workplace standards, producing job-ready graduates for the global market. Curtin's degrees have a global perspective and are recognised around the world. We have an established network with more than 400 institutions in 40 countries to provide students with the chance to improve their career development, travel and study prospects", said Mr. Chris Hogg, Associate Director International Student Recruitment at Curtin University.

"Curtin is a well-known university in Oman and at GHEDEX 2012 students will have the opportunity to meet our representatives and discuss opportunities to broaden their educational experience and add value to their degree," he added.

Among the new programs and developments to be showcased at GHEDEX 2012 is the Curtin Engineering Pavilion Complex: an A$32 million investment between Curtin, the government and industry. Opened by Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, it promotes collaborative learning and enhances students' learning experiences, keeping Curtin at the forefront of engineering education in Australia. Curtin spends considerable efforts to continually re-examine its engineering curriculum ensuring that it meets the demands of the profession.

The university will also showcase its recently introduced Health Information Management, Graduate Entry Master (GEM) degree. The GEM programs provide a pathway for students who already hold a bachelor degree to gain an entry-level qualification in a profession. Health information management is a challenging profession involving clinical knowledge, health management, database management and administration undertaken with ethical and legal consideration. Health information serves as a platform for clinical care, healthcare planning and management decisions, legal and administrative purposes, research, epidemiology and for evaluating the standards and quality of patient care. Combining scientific, technical and administration expertise, the major provides extensive practical experience to ensure students obtain the skills needed for health information management. Health Information Management is also available as a major in the Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree. This major is unique in Western Australia.

Curtin University is the largest university in Western Australia. An international university; Curtin also has offshore campuses throughout the Asia-Pacific region in Singapore, Sarawak and Sydney.
