Construction work on Qatar's iconic World Trade Centre tower in Doha has started and is expect to take two years to build.
This was announced today at a press conference during the signing of the construction contract between the owner of the project, Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance Company (QGIRCO) and Arabtec Construction Company, the main contractor. The ceremony was held in the presence of Sheikh Nasser Bin Ali Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance, Mr. Riad Kamal, Chairman of Arabtec and a number of senior officials of the two companies.
Designed to the latest building technology with a unique architectural form, the 50-storey tower comprises 42 levels of office space, an exclusive business club, a podium of four floors for conferences, 4 basement car parking and services and a Sphere Structure, housing a multi-purpose auditorium. The total built up area is approximately 142 thousand square meters.
Sheikh Nasser Bin Ali Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance Company announced that the World Trade Center tower in Doha is the latest addition to the real estate portfolio of the company. He talked about the refined project considering that the WTC tower is an important addition to the real estate sector in Qatar through its superior quality and high standard of services and superior infrastructure. Sheikh Nasser added that the launching of this great project is timely and testimonial to QGIRCO's firm belief in Qatar's growing national economy, which is now the world leader in terms of growth rates.
The main components of the tower include a spherical building that features an auditorium with a capacity of 523 fixed-seats, multi-purpose hall for conferences and exhibitions of 1775 square meters, and five floors of executive offices. A defining feature at the top most level is a circular Business Club that will provide the highest level of luxury, service and breathtaking views of the city of Doha. The tower offers four-storey of car park space for up to 1169 cars.
The World Trade Center tower in Doha joins a global network of more than 300 iconic World Trade Centers that have become focal points of contact for businessmen and international companies seeking integrated business and trade services.
The WTC project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2012. The piling works have been completed and the main construction works has been awarded to Arabtec Construction Company for 520 Million Qatari Riyal. Construction works has commenced on site.
