Muscat: For those of you who have watched the movie Minority Report (2002), you would remember Tom Cruise using his hands to shift images from screen to screen in fast motion or use his fingers to bring images up to the screen. Pranav Mistry a PhD candidate in the Fluid Interfaces Group at the MIT Media Lab made this Minority Report fantasy a reality by inventing a wearable gestural interface device called the Sixth Sense.  COMEX 2013, Oman's leading IT and Telecom Show taking place from 25th -29th March at the Oman International Exhibition Centre examines the potential of the Sixth Sense technology for users.

Sixth Sense technology projects information to any surface including your hand. You can draw an @ symbol in the air which would allow you to check your emails on the wall. If you want to make a call you can project a keypad onto your hand and literally dial the number and make the call on your hand. You can draw a circle on your hand which will bring up a virtual watch telling you the time. You can see videos in place of pictures in the newspapers, since sixth sense connects the picture to the event and plays the same for you. If you pick up a book, sixth sense gives you the book ratings, reviews etc. When you're traveling, sixth sense recognises your boarding pass and projects the timings and gate number, saving you the hassle of checking online.

Pranav Mistry feels sixth sense technology won't phase out electronic devices like mobile phones and laptops but will be an option for users to the existing computing world. Since this technology is still developing, we can enjoy the latest additions and features of electronic devices available @ COMEX 2013. Held under the patronage of e.oman and organised by OITE Trade Fairs, COMEX 2013 showcases a comprehensive display of the latest technology, gadgets, consumer electronics etc under the Shopper pavilion.
