Vendor positioned in "Leaders" quadrant in CPM Suites

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, has announced that it is positioned in the leaders quadrant of Gartner, Inc.'s new Corporate Performance Management (CPM) Suites 2006 Magic Quadrant. Vendors are evaluated based on completeness of vision and ability to execute.

According to Gartner, "leaders are vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction, and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market." Gartner defines CPM as including "processes, such as strategy formulation, budgeting and forecasting; methodologies that drive some of the processes, such as the balanced scorecard or value-based management; and the metrics used to measure performance against strategic and operational performance goals."

Gartner also acknowledges that "to be effective CPM must be supported by a suite of analytical applications that provide the functionality to support these processes, methodologies and metrics."
