26 April 2004

CNBC Arabiya, the Arab world’s first 24 hour Arabic language financial and business channel, will be providing full coverage of Arabian Travel Market 2004 (ATM) from its stand at the premier travel and tourism show in the Middle East.

Cliff Tendler, CNBC Arabiya’s Vice-President for Programming, Sales and Marketing, said, “Tourism development is one of the most important growth sectors in the Middle East economy and CNBC Arabiya will be providing full on-the-ground coverage of ATM, the most important industry trade show in the region.

“CNBC Arabiya will be interviewing many of the high-level participants attending to give our growing regional audience insights in to the dynamic and expanding tourism landscape across the Arab world. We see tourism development as a key economic sector and for this reason CNBC Arabiya will be, for the first time, official participants in this major business event.”

ATM, which is now in its 11th year, runs from May 4 – 7 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

CNBC Arabiya began broadcasting in August last year from its studios at Dubai Media City with ground-breaking programming generated by its Arab news team supported by CNBC Arabiya correspondents across the Middle East and in London and New York and drawing on the global newsgathering resources of Reuters, Dow Jones and its affiliate CNBC International.  In less than six months CNBC Arabiya became the leading business news channel in the Middle East, broadcasting to 18 countries across the region.

The channel has established bureaux in Riyadh, Beirut, Cairo, Manama and London. During 2004 CNBC Arabiya will continue to expand its newsgathering capabilities with new bureaux in Doha, Kuwait City and Jeddah.

Matt Thompson, Group Exhibitions Director, Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE), which organises ATM, said: “We are expecting an even bigger media presence this year with more than 15 media organisations ranging from the trade press to BBC World taking stands at the show as well as the media from the Middle East and the rest of the world who will be flying in to cover the event.”

To date more than 1,200 exhibitors from 55 countries have signed on for ATM 2004 which is already bigger in floor space by 25 per cent on last year’s event.

ATM 2004 is expected to benefit from the staging just prior to the event of the 4th Global Travel & Tourism Summit in Doha from May 1 to 3 organized by the World Travel & Tourism Council.
